When Emma’s father, a soldier in the service of King Donal, died when she was no more than five years old, leaving her alone with her mother, Emma made a promise deep in her heart. She promised herself that she would never be left alone by anyone again, and promise that if someone was hurting, in body or heart, she would save them, like she couldn’t save her father.

She had no idea how much this promise would affect her life.

Emma’s mother was a talented seamstress, but always had problems dealing with every day things such as feeding herself, after her husband died, and was fairly withdrawn. Emma took it upon herself to, well, mother her mother, taking care of all those small things for her, so she could focus on her sewing to make the money she needed. She did the shopping herself, cooked the meals, tucked her mother into bed, helped her run their shop, did as much of the sewing herself as she could.

These tasks made her feel like she important, needed, special, and so she continued them as much as she could. They also made her feel as if she was owed something, both by her mother and by life itself, but she became terrified to demand anything from anyone.

As her mother slowly got back on her feet from her husband’s death, she began to not need Emma as much. The girl felt useless and frightened of not being needed, so she began to each out to her community as well as she could, mothering those around her even though she was no more than a small child. At the same time, she expected a great deal back from these people, attention, love, understanding.

It was through this that, she met Brian.

He was the son of a nearby blacksmith, a boy who seemed alone, angry, and sad. Emma saw someone who needed her, and thus began the relationship that makes up the greater part of her life.

Brian did need her, she quickly learned, and she devoted all of her time and affection to him, even to the point of occassionally ignoring the other duties she took so seriously. At first, their relationship was nothing but perfect, he loved the attention she gave, and gave it back to her, she loved talking to him, spending time in his presence, listening to his ambitions of how he was going to make something of himself, something of them both. But as time wore on and they grew older, and she began to see that Brian was not the perfect man she thought he was. He insulted her, beat her down, controlled her every move. And while it broke her and hurt her, she let him. She couldn’t say a word against him, she loved him, and to get angry at him was completely unthinkable. For years, this has persisted.

Emma loves the outskirts of Eblar where she lives, and loves her work as a seamstress, especially now that her mother and her work side by side in their shop – though despite their new closeness, she hides the state of her and Brian’s relationship from her – but she’s prepared to pack up her life and move when Brian finds the way to make all the things he says are going to happen come true. She’d follow him to the end of the earth.



PERSONALITY ;;

Emma is hard-working, honest, practical, and kind. She’s not especially intelligent, but thanks to her father’s early instruction, had a drive to push herself to being a skilled writer and a decent reader, as she knows it’s what he would have wanted. She appreciates the value of work, thanks to the job she works in, believing that success eventually comes to all who persist.

She also loves to be near people, to be loved, to be wanted, and to love and want back. She focuses an extreme amount of attention on one person at a time, to the point where she ignores her own happiness, needs, and health. She resists voicing her own opinions for fear of offence to an extreme, but tries to use subtle cues and emotional baggage to manipulate subtely when she can, often unconciously.

Her sunny personality, bright, sweet smile, and helpful nature makes her an easy friend. It also makes her look very easy to take advantage of ... which she is, of course. Emma is incapable of saying no, to anyone, about anything, for fear of hurting someone’s feelings or making them hate her.

She loves Brian with all her heart. Despite all his faults that she admits to herself are there, she honestly believes him to be a wonderful person underneath, for those times when he really is devoted and loving. She’s determined that no one think badly of him, and no one be allowed to know the things that he does to her. She abhors it when he tries to fight in public, trying to meekly obey to end things quickly. Emma would give everything to Brian – and more or less has.



APPEARANCE ;;

Emma is a pretty young woman with long fushia hair and soft brown eyes. Of average height and build, she wears primarily dresses she made herself. She’s known to tie her hair into pigtails or small braids on some occasions. She has rather large breasts. A seamstress to the end, she tends to have thread tied around her wrist for easy access.
